Resizing is where two different things get confused. One is the pixel dimensions of the image; the other is the size of the file on disk. "Make it 1080×1080" is about pixels. "Get it under 500 KB" is about file size. This tool handles the first — if what you need is a smaller file, compression is the right place.
Shrinking and enlarging are not opposites. Shrinking throws information away, which is easy. Enlarging has to invent information that was never captured, which is why an upscaled image looks soft. So enlarging past the original is blocked by default. The one exception is when you type exact width and height — that is a clear instruction, so the limit steps aside and you get the size you asked for.
When the target shape does not match the original, you have two honest choices. Fill covers the whole frame and crops whatever hangs over the edge. Fit keeps the entire image and pads the leftover space. Neither one stretches your picture out of shape.
Everything runs inside your browser. Because the image never reaches a server, we cannot store it or look at it. That difference matters when the file is company material or a personal photo.
